The exciting and glamorous world of beauty therapy offers a number of fun and exciting opportunities. A career in beauty therapy could be your next step to a new future. Imagine being able to choose to work in a range of different fields such as:
You may choose to work from home as a freelance beauty therapist, or you may like the pace and glamour of working in a high end city salon.
Once qualified you could specialise as a make-up artist working in film, television or theatre. Every fashion model show needs a make-up artist – with a little dedication this could be you! You might enjoy the creativity of nail artistry and train as a nail technician. If your interest lies in the holistic side, you can extend your skills from massage to aromatherapy.
Once specialised, many therapists wish to expand their skills even further into advanced techniques: as an electrologist you can learn to remove thread veins and warts; as an aromatherapist you can learn Shiatsu, Reiki or Indian Head Massage.
Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 1
Course Modules can include units in:
· Assisting with manicures
· Assisting with skincare and facial procedures
· Working on the salon reception
· Health & safety in the salon setting
You may also study other skills such as communication and IT to broaden your career development.
Entry requirements for the Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 1 course
You will normally need 2 GCSEs at grade E or alternative qualification such as skills for working life or life skills. You should also have excellent personal appearance and a high level of hygiene. You should also be enthusiastic and have a genuine interest in beauty therapy. Being a team play is also vital as you will often have to work closely with a number of colleagues.
How long is the course?
Usually 1 year but because of the size of our groups we can run them over a 10 week period
When you complete NVQ Level 1 you can progress onto a level 2 course and become qualified for a career in the exciting beauty therapy industry.
How are you assessed?
You will have reviews with practical and written assessments throughout your course and will also have to complete a written test and some project work.
Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2
Course modules can include
· manicure and pedicure methods
· facial massage and skin care
· hair removal techniques
· health and safety requirements
· make-up techniques
· customer care
· receptionist duties
· eye treatments
You will also study essential skills including application of number, communications and IT.
Entry requirements for the NVQ level 2 in Beauty Therapy

How long is the Beauty Therapy level 2 course?
2 days a week over 10 weeks
When you complete your Level 2 you can go onto the Beauty therapy NVQ level 3 or gain employment on cruise liners, health farms, in beauty salons, sports clinics/ centres, remedial massage centres or running your own business.
Ongoing reviews and practical assessments plus written assignments including case studies external examinations in beauty and other key skills
Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 3
Course modules can include
· electrolysis
· financial management
· artificial nail extension
· face and body electricals
· epilation
· body massage
· aromatherapy
· Indian body massage
You will also study essential skills including application of number, communications and IT.
Entry requirements for the NVQ level 3 in Beauty Therapy
Ideally you must have passed NVQ level 2 successfully
How long is the Beauty Therapy level 3 course?
2 days per week over 10 weeks
When you complete the course
Advancement into the Beauty therapy NVQ level 3 or gain employment on cruise liners, health farms, in beauty salons, sports clinics/ centres, remedial massage centres or running your own business
